Herbal & Nutritional Therapeutics

There are various herbal remedies and nutrient supplements to be taken after a consult with me. It really depends on what is going on with your condition, and your preferences.

Liquid Herbal Extracts

Liquid herbal extracts are alcohol based and are extremely effective. They work faster than tinctures, tablets or capsules for these reasons:

  1. Because they are alcoholic, they 'jump the queue' for processing in the liver, they get 'priority processing', and don't have to go through the digestive process like capsules or tablets.

  2. Various parts of a herb is used for the specific therapeutic action, and depending on what part is used, also depends on the specific percentage of alcohol that is required to extract the right constituents, or plant chemicals, that have the best effects.

  3. Liquid extracts are percolated with the alcohol rather than being left to brew in alcohol for a few weeks, which is what a tincture is. Tinctures are usually not as efficacious for this reason, and whilst they do have an effect, the liquid extracts are far superior simply as the continuous supply of alcohol that runs through the herb during percolation means that more constituents are removed from the herb with the alcohol. The more constituents or plant chemicals that you can remove from the herb, the better synergy between them all for that good effect.

Alcohol herbal extracts are safe during pregnancy (second and third trimesters only), and also for children and babies - the beneficial effects of the herbs far outweigh the negligible amount of alcohol taken in a dose.

Between 3 - 5 herbs are chosen for their specific therapeutic actions that improve the condition, as well as being specific to you for a restorative outcome. Each herb has an appropriate dosage - some are stronger than others, so not much is required in one bottle. They are then mixed altogether and poured into a glass bottle like one of these:

Bespoke Herbal Loose Leaf Tea

Herbal tea

People always assume that herbal tea is weak and ineffective, and it is always a shame when clients do not take advantage of the herbal benefits that come from tea. They are amazingly powerful for kidney and bladder problems, as they go straight there to be urinated out, taking the herbal benefits along with them to that location in the body.

In addition, they have soothing effects on the gastrointestinal lining, and provide warmth to the head for colds, coughs and flu, and have wonderful soothing effects on the nervous system.

There is such a variety of beautiful aromas and many different combinations of flavours to make them a versatile type of treatment. They are a great choice for children because of how gentle they are - one tip I give to all my clients is to get your child liking herbs from an early age as they are a gentle treatment for so many childhood illnesses.

About 5-7 different dried herbs are used to make a bespoke loose leaf tea to treat your condition. Various parts of herbs are used in the loose leaf tea, such as roots, leaves, or flowers - it depends on where the active constituents are that have most effect on the body.

Small bag of loose leaf herbal tea for relaxing

Dose: One heaped teaspoon per cup of hot water 3 times daily for 2 weeks. You could use one desert spoon full per cup of hot water twice a day, if this is easier.

Price: £5 per small bag (lasts 2 weeks)

Note: A strainer or teapot with strainer is required, or you can let the herbs sink to the bottom of the cup, but do not drink them at the end of the cup of tea.

Herbal Capsules or Tablets

Herbal tablets take a little longer to work compared to the liquid extracts, but it depends on your preference and condition if this form of herbs would work for you. Effects may take longer to notice, but are also long lasting.

Price: Depending on what you need or want to spend - average is about £30 for one bottle - can be more, depends what is in the tablets. Would typically last 1 month, depending on how strong they are and how many you need for therapeutic effects.

Nutrient Supplementation

Nutrient supplements recommended by me are brands that can only be bought if prescribed via a practitioner, you can’t buy them over the counter. They are formulated with a therapeutic amount of the nutrient(s) you need, AND the correct form of nutrient, so that they actually have an effect.

Although they may cost more than cheaper variations from a health shop or supermarket, they work quicker and more efficiently. Cheap supplements bought over the counter simply do not have enough quantities of nutrients to have the right effects, and more importantly, the right forms of the said nutrient, and come with fillers and bulking agents that can cause more problems.

Price: Depending on what you need - average is about £30 for one bottle but can be more, depends what is in the tablets. Typically lasts 1 - 2 months.

Note: Chronic skin conditions usually need more than just a superficial topical application - usually some kind of dietary and lifestyle change, herbs and nutritional supplementation is required for proper healing

Bach Flower Remedies

Emotions and mindset have a profound effect on our health and therefore disease, and so do Bach flower remedies. Every organ or body system is connected to different emotional states, eg. liver = anger, kidneys/bladder = anxiety, fear, lungs = grief and sorrow.

There is a Bach flower remedy for every emotional state - you can often see which one works for yourself or someone you know. Read more about the meanings and uses of the remedies here:

Although you can choose the remedy that you resonate with to 'fix' your head and heart, sometimes it takes someone on the outside to select the right one. It is recommended to only use up to 7 remedies in one bottle, otherwise there could be a lot of emotional stuff that surfaces.

Price: £8.50 per Bespoke Bach flower remedy (after consult)

What conditions can herbs help

Herbs can help so many things...

There are not many health issues that herbs cannot help with - and I am not being biased, as my clients can tell you!

Herbs are very underrated - most likely because most people buy over-the-counter products from a health shop or supermarket and the herbal product doesn't help. This is because anything bought over-the-counter is simply not good enough to do the job because they don't have the right amount of nutrient or herb, or they have used the incorrect part of the herb, eg. leaf instead of root. Read my blog on why this is here.

Herbs are extremely safe with no side effects (if taken in the prescribed dose!), and very effective at helping ease and overcome a wide range of conditions, such as:

  • Constipation, diarrhoea, IBS, SIBO, bloating, stomach ulcers, ulcerative colitis, Coeliac disease, Helicobacter pylori, parasites, high or low stomach acidity, gallbladder issues

  • PMS, irregular periods, infertility, pregnancy, breastfeeding, perimenopause, menopause, PCOS

  • Hyper- and Hypothyroid hormone

  • Babies & Children: recurring infections, eczema, psoriasis, sleep issues, bedwetting, worms

  • Cardiovascular disease, respiratory disorders, chronic stress

  • Inflammatory health conditions: Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), ME, autoimmune disease, allergies, intolerances

  • Neurologic: depression, anxiety, migraines, memory problems, brain fog

  • Metabolic & Endocrine: diabetes, hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, insulin resistance, weight gain, weight loss

  • Adrenal stress & exhaustion

  • Colds, flu, chicken pox, measles

  • Poor immunity: recurring infections

  • Insomnia
